別小看這個字哦
很多英文不錯的人也常栽在它手上
當你的英文到了一個程度時
真正的"高下"就是從冠詞, 介系詞這些小地方看出來的
用錯了的話, 這個句子的文法就是不對的哦!
簡單來說, 有加 the 就表示說話者認為對方會知道他說的是哪一個
可能是因為雙方之前有談過這個東西, 或是這個東西是兩人生活範圍裡唯一的
我們來看下面這些例子:
I have a dog. 只是要表達我有一隻"狗"這種動物, 是什麼狗不重要
I like the dog. 指某隻聽話者知道的一隻狗, 比如他們曾經談過的狗, 或現在看到的狗
I like the dogs. 指某群聽話者知道的狗
I like dogs. 泛指"狗"這種動物
I take a bus to school. 我搭公車(這種交通工具)上學 (是哪一路或哪種不重要)
但 I take the bus to school. 用 the bus 則是因為當地可能只有一路公車, 或指的是校車, 總之是對方知道的一種 bus
注意: 只要是可數名詞, 一定在它前面會有 a, an, the, 數字, this/these/that/ those 或所有格
或是該名詞要用複數
絕對不可能前面沒有上面提到那些字, 後面也沒有用複數
比如:
I have car. (X)
I have a car. (O) 我有(一部)車
I have two cars. (O)
I like my car. (O)
I like the car. (O) 我喜歡這/那部車
I like the cars. (O) 我喜歡這/那些車
I like cars. (O) 我喜歡車( 這種東西)
在泛指某種東西時, 只要它是可數名詞, 都用複數
所以"我喜歡車"會說 I like cars. 而不是 I like a car.
另外, 有些特殊情況會用到 the, 像是:
(1) the + 樂器 / 發明 / 動植物名
I can play the piano. (並非指某台鋼琴)
The telephone is a great invention. (並非指某個電話)
My favorite flower is the rose. (也並非指某朵玫瑰)
(2) in the morning / afternoon / evening
in the past / in the future
in the 1950s / in the 21st century
(3) the + 序數 (first, second, third...)
I live on the second floor.
He was the first person to ask me that question.
(但"得到第...名"則不用the, 比如是 I won first place / first prize.
而不是 I won the first place / the first prize.)
(4) the + 最高級形容詞或副詞
Mount. Jade is the highest mountain in Taiwan.
He is the funniest person I know.
(5) the + 形容詞 = (所有) ... 的人
the Japanese = Japanese people
the rich = rich people
還有一些該加 the 但卻不加的情況
像上面說的得第幾名
或指一個頭銜時
像: Obama became president in 2009. (O)
Obama became the president in 2009. (X)
記得專有名詞如人名, 地名等, 絕對不能加 a, an, the 等字
像 Jack, Taipei, SOGO 等
除非前面或後面接了一個普通名詞
像 the name Jack
the Taipei City Zoo
the Discovery Channel
I went to SOGO. (O)
I went to the SOGO. (X)
I went to the SOGO department store. (O)
I went to SOGO department store. (X)
